Location

Directions

From the town of Hearst travel west on TransCanada Highway 11 for about 5.58 mi (9 km) and proceed north onto an all-weather 2-lane concession road. North of the highway, the concession road crosses a set of railroad tracks and intersects another concession road which heads west paralleling the tracks. The property is situated approximately 1 mile west on this concession. The Ontario Northland railway traverses the south boundary.

Crown Land

Moose Country, with over 35,000 acres of Crown Land abutting the property to the north, east and west, which you can use for recreational purposes as if it was your own.

Topography

The lot is approximately 1650-ft wide X 3600-ft deep on the west and 3100-ft deep on the east. The property is generally flat to gently rolling. There is a narrow creek flowing north lined with thick underbrush. The area of Cochrane abounds in streams and lakes swarming with fish. The region provides excellent opportunities to view and photograph moose, marten, otter and other wildlife.

Vegetation

Trees include mature balsam, poplar, tamarack and trembling aspen as well as young spruce and balsam fir. About 20 acres in the south of the property is an abandoned field which is starting to fill in back to scrub with bushes and spruce trees. The remainder of the property has been logged with care not to damage the younger trees.

Wildlife

Bird species include ruffed and spruce grouse, woodcock, broadwing and red-tail hawk, hairy and downy woodpecker, as well as many assorted wood warblers including magnolia, chestnut-sided, bay-breasted, black and white. Mammals such as moose, marten and otter forage in the thick underbrush along the traversing creek.
