A
vast area that stretches west from the Province of Quebec
along the north boundary of Timiskaming District and forms
a zig zag boundary with the north extremities of sudbury and
Algoma to the northeast tip of Thunder Bay District. The discovery
of gold at Porcupine Lake opened up the district more than
50 years ago. In this area lies the great clay belt –
16,000,000acres of arable land across which runs Highway 11
and the Canadian National Railway. Forest wealth supplies
fodder for pulp and paper mills at Iroquois Falls, Smooth
Rock Falls and Kapuskasing.
At Onakawana,120 miles north of Cochrane, is one of the world’s
greatest lignite fields, with 9,000,000 known tons. Gypsum
beds stretch for miles along the Moore River and the clay
deposits are among the finest in the world. There are mica,
copper, asbestos and river banks of solid iron ore in the
shield.

If you like hunting, fishing, picking mushrooms, berries,
and herbs or gardening, you will enjoy this wilderness part
of Ontario. As it is unpolluted, you can consume your natural
produce without poisoning your body, while at the same time,
enhancing your health and fitness.

civilisation, these properties offer a rare opportunity with
a high ideal value. Drying, canning, or smoking of wildlife
and fish you harvested from nature, or deep freezing vegetables,

cranes, sparrows and woodpeckers. The vast Crown Lands provide
great hunting possibilities. Local outfitters are available
to guide you in the right direction to get the trophy.
