Parry
Sound District is part of Ontario’s Playground,
remote and wild yet only 3 to 4 hours from Toronto. It lies
between Muskoka to the south and Nipissing to the north and
is crossed by two major north-south Highways: 11 and 69. Georgian
Bay with its 30,000 Islands defines the western edge, and
Algonquin Park lies just a few miles to the east.
While Parry Sound District was settled
in the mid-19th century as a primarily logging area, it has
since become more important for its recreational potential:
cottaging, canoeing, fishing, camping, and hunting. Lying
entirely within the Canadian Shield, its rugged landscape
is unsuitable for agriculture, but as a haven for escape-seeking
urbanites it is second to none. Every year thousands of tourists
visit the area for its many lakes, forests and beautiful granite
cliffs
